The summary of the Oprah show was with Elie from the book night. He explained to her about what it was like there at Auschwitz. Oprah tries to understand about what went on when he was there. She asks what it like was to lose his family. He says he can’t answer that. He got real emotional when he tried talking about what happened. He said it was hard to deal with the hunger and sleep depression. It was just him and his dad. Everyone else died in the gas chambers. He didn’t know why he was lucky enough to live with his dad, but he had to deal with starving and watching people die. He explained that he lost faith in god because of the face that it was hell there. He thought about dying but he thought that if he did that his dad would die also. They had to work together because if one dies the other may as well. Oprah asked what it like was to be there. He said that there are no words to describe it. He said that the only peace that you may get is a good dream or getting thick soup. She said she didn’t know how to feel because she didn’t think that people could be that cruel and unforgiving. He said the only person that would know what it was like would be the people that were there. He said that they had to run for what felt like forever. Hey hid in a shack that had no roof. And that he didn’t want to sleep because if he did he may die and if he died his dad would too. He explained that there were guards and if you didn’t keep up of fell behind that they would kill you. At the beginning he mentioned that he thought about going to the fences because that would be the fastest way out. He talked about that he wanted to tell the world about what happened there and what it was like there. Oprah said what you thought was going to happen to you at first because she explained that Moshe came from one of those camps and warned everyone and no one believed him. So when the Nazis came they didn’t think anything of it. They thought they were going to Hungary. Oprah explained that she was born the day that Elies father died. She thought that was weird. He explained that they had to live on bunks that people right next to you died in their sleep all the time. The whole time that he was there he was never separated from his father. He saw that there was a father and son basically just like them and they got separated and he didn’t want that for him and his father. He thought that it may be a good idea to split up so that way they don’t have to worry about being separated by force or be killed. But then Elie thought that if he did his dad may die.
